The Nobel Prizes are awarded every year around the end of November and the beginning of December. There are 33 winners of the Chemistry prize associated with Cambridge, 19 of whom were either undergraduate or graduate students. Many of the winners are associated with the field of genetics, notably Fred Sanger who is one of only 5 people to have won two Nobel Prizes. Dr Sanger spent his entire academic life at Cambridge, from undergraduate to retirement. He was never awarded a chair as he himself admitted he never did any undergraduate teaching and wasn’t interested in administration. However, two of his doctoral students went on to win Nobel Prizes.
